Gaming Tournaments

The gaming tournaments at Eirtakon 2011 will be the biggest ones yet! Face off against your fellow compatriots to determine who is the best gamer at Eirtakon!
Games Tournaments General Rules
- All tournaments have a €1 entry fee to participate.
- The entry fee is non-refundable for initial sign-ups up to the player limit.
- The entry fee is refundable for backup sign-ups after the player limit if they do not participate.
- All tournaments are open to all attendees.
- Eirtakon volunteer staff members are allowed to participate in tournaments, subject to paying the entry fee, and are allowed to win prizes.
- Members of the Eirtakon committee are allowed to participate with no entry cost, but cannot win prizes.
- Participants should arrive in good time for the tournament. Late arrivals will be disqualified.
- All tournaments are single-elimination unless otherwise stated.
- All tournament prizes will be awarded at the closing ceremony. If you are not at the closing ceremony when the winner is announced you will not receive a prize unless you inform the committee in person that you can not attend.
- Any participant interrupting a round, either by pausing the game, unplugging a controller, turning the console off, running out of battery, or similar either forfeits that round or is disqualified.
- Any interruption caused by a crowd member will result in ejection from the Games room and/or the convention hall itself.
- Participants have a short window to customise their control settings before any round of a tournament. Participants may not change controls after the game has started.
- Participants may utilise their own custom controllers, provided there are no macro or turbo functions enabled.
Friday
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Registration: 4pm-4.45pm
Tournament: 5pm-7pm
- 4-player matches.
- 8 minute time limit, stock 3 lives.
- Items set to None and Off.
- All characters permitted.
- Stages: Battlefield, Final Destination, Yoshi's Island, Smashville, Lylat Cruise, Pokémon Stadium 2, Castle Siege, Delfino Plaza.
Mario Kart Wii
Registration: 7pm-7.45pm
Tournament: 8pm-10pm
- 4-player matches.
- Three races per round, AI enabled.
- All characters and vehicles permitted.
- Other rules TBA.
Saturday
Modern Warfare 3
Registration: 10am-10.45am
Tournament: 11pm-1pm
- Gun Game Free-for-All.

Pokémon Black and White - VGC Rules
(in conjunction with PokéMoshPit)
Registration: 12pm-12.30pm
Tournament: 12.45pm-4pm
- All players must bring their own DS and their own copy of the game. No R4's or equivalent flash carts or emulators are permitted.
- All players are recommended to have their DS fully charged before the day, and to bring a DS charger, just in case.
- Battles are of the double battle format. 4-6 Pokémon per team. 4 Pokémon selected per battle.
- Clauses in effect:
- Species clause: No team may have two Pokémon with the same Pokédex number.
- Item clause: No team may have two of the same item.
- Self-KO clause: If a participant's final Pokémon uses Selfdestruct, Explosion, Final Gambit, or Destiny Bond; and as a result, both participant's final Pokémon are knocked out, that participant loses. If a participant's final Pokémon uses Double-Edge, Volt Tackle, Flare Blitz, Take Down, Submission, Brave Bird, Wood Hammer, Head Smash, Struggle, or Wild Charge, or was holding Life Orb, and both participant's final Pokémon are knocked out as a result, that participant wins the game. If both participant's final Pokémon are knocked out by weather, the Pokémon that fainted last wins the game. If both participant's final Pokémon are knocked out by a held item or ability, the participant with the held item or ability wins the game.
- Banned Pokémon include:
- All Pokémon with Pokédex numbers 001-493.
- Legendaries: Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem.
- Unreleased: Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect.
- The move Sky Drop is banned.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3
(in conjunction with randomselect.ie)
Registration: 12.30pm-1.15pm
Tournament: 1.30pm-3.30pm
- This is a double-elimination tournament.
- All characters are selectable.
- Participants can change characters in each round of the double-elimination phase. However, once a match has started, participants may only change characters in a match after losing a set. The winner of the first set must stick to their characters they started the set with, and may only change if they lose the second set, in which case the winner of the second set, must then stick to the characters they used in the second set.
- Double Blind selection is available if participants are concerned about counter-picking.
- Rock/Paper/Scissors is used if participants are unable to agree on which side of the screen they will sit at.
- In the event of a game ending in a draw, the game will scrapped and not counted towards the results. It will then be replayed.
- No white tracksuits please.
Gears of War 3

Registration: 3pm-3.45pm
Tournament: 4pm-6pm
- 4v4 Team Deathmatch, 10 life pool, no bots.
- Map selection: Checkout, Gridlock, Old Town, Thrashball
- One round per match, 5 minute round time limit.
- Tie-breakers:
- Most lives remaining in life pool
- Most players alive, if both respawns are depleted.
- Least revives.
- Highest combined team score.
Pokémon Black and White - Elite Four Challenge
(in conjunction with PokéMoshPit)
Tournament: 6pm-9pm (no prior registration required)
- All players must bring their own DS and their own copy of the game. No R4's or equivalent flash carts or emulators are permitted.
- All players are recommended to have their DS fully charged before the day, and to bring a DS charger, just in case.
- Battles are of the single battle format, with Wonder Launcher enabled. 6 Pokémon per team. 3 Pokémon selected per battle.
- Challenge format:
- Players must attempt to beat the Elite Four, by defeating each of the four members in a battle.
- The four members may be challenged in any order.
- If a player loses against any member, they are eliminated.
- The first player to beat all four members of the Elite Four becomes the Champion. The Champion must then defend his title by beating any other player who manages to beat the Elite Four.
- If the Champion loses, the player who defeated them becomes the new Champion.
- The Champion at the end of the tournament period is declared the winner.
- Clauses in effect:
- Species clause: No team may have two Pokémon with the same Pokédex number.
- Item clause: No team may have two of the same item.
- Evasion clause: No Pokémon may use Evasion-boosting moves such as Minimize or Double Team. Evasion-boosting items such as BrightPowder or Lax Incense are also banned.
- Sleep clause: Participants may not put more than one opposing Pokémon to sleep at a time. Self-induced sleep from Rest is not included.
- Self-KO clause is not in effect. If both participants' final Pokémon are knocked out by any means, the challenger loses.
- Banned Pokémon include all Legendary Pokémon from all regions.
- Kanto: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew.
- Johto: Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-oh, Celebi.
- Hoenn: Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Latias, Latios, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys.

Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition

Registration: 5.30pm-6.15pm
Tournament: 6.30pm-9.00pm+ (will run as long as required)
- This is a double-elimination tournament.
- All characters are selectable.
- Participants can change characters in each round of the double-elimination phase. However, once a match has started, participants may only change characters in a match after losing a set. The winner of the first set must stick to their character they started the set with, and may only change if they lose the second set, in which case the winner of the second set, must then stick to the character they used in the second set.
- Double Blind selection is available if participants are concerned about counter-picking.
- Rock/Paper/Scissors is used if participants are unable to agree on which side of the screen they will sit at.

Rock Band - Battle of the Bands
Tournament: 9.00pm-11.00pm (no prior registration required)
- All bands must feature four instruments, and must contain at least four people. NOTE: Keyboard will not be available.
- Scoring is determined by a combination of song performance (number of stars), stage performance (enthusiasm, realism etc.), and audience reaction.
- All parts must be played on minimum Hard difficulty.
- All songs may be chosen, provided they feature all parts.
- Songs may not be restarted once they have begun (except for controls change).
- No Fail Mode will not be enabled. Failing out of a song ends the performance.
Sunday
Forza Motorsport 4
Registration: 10am-10.45am
Tournament: 11am-1pm
- 3 lap races, Top Gear Test Track, Kia cee'd.
- Collisions are off.
- All assists are allowed, times will not be adjusted to compensate.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game
Registration: 11am-12pm
Tournament: 12.15pm-5pm
- This is a Swiss tournament.
- This tournament takes place in the first floor of the Business Building - please follow signposts for directions.
- This is a constructed deck tournament - you must bring your own tournament-legal deck to participate.
- This is an Advanced Format tournament, please check the banlist on the Yu-Gi-Oh Card website.

- Map selection: Asylum, Pinnacle, Reflection, Sword Base, The Cage, Zealot.
- Starting weapons: DMR primary, Magnum secondary.
- Available abilities: Sprint, Evade, Hologram, Active Camo.
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II

Just Dance 3 - High Score Challenge
(sponsored by Ubisoft)
- This is a weekend-long leaderboard tournament.
- Tournament song: TBA
- Each participant gets one attempt over the weekend to score as many points as possible on the tournament song.
F1 2011 - Hot Lap Challenge
- This is a weekend-long leaderboard tournament.
- Tournament track: Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi.
- Each participant gets one attempt over the weekend to set the fastest lap they can on the Abu Dhabi circuit.
- Participants are allowed three green-flag laps, no restarts, no flashbacks.
- All assists are allowed, however lap times will be adjusted to balance.
- Any team/driver may be chosen, lap times will not be adjusted to balance.
