Every year Eirtakon gets bigger and better and we couldn’t do it without our volunteer staff!

If you have never been staff at a convention before, don’t worry. Many of our staff members will have staffed before, so you’ll be able to get lots of help and advice.

Just because you are working at Eirtakon doesn’t mean you will miss the workshop or event you have your heart set on. If you let us know in advance, we will arrange for you to have time off to go see your favorite event.

We have just a few things we need from our volunteer staff.

1. Staff need to be present for the entire weekend. If you can’t be there on Friday night, that’s fine but we need you all day Saturday and all day Sunday.
2. Staff need to be present in the Helix for 8:30am each morning. We’ll provide you with breakfast, so it’s worth getting there early. We need staff there early because the attendees get there early!
3. You need to have attended Eirtakon at least once.
4. You need to be at least 16 years old.
5. This seems obvious, but you need to work. Chatting to friends when it is quiet is fine, you’ll almost certainly have downtime at each desk, but when it is busy we need staff to do their jobs. It makes life easier for everyone!

You'll find out on the day specifically what you'll be doing, but basically you'll be doing everything. Volunteers are swapped across all of the jobs over the weekend so that nobody is stuck with what would otherwise be a boring task for too long. This ensures that you get to work with each other member of volunteer staff, so you should make a bunch of new friends, though as everyone has name badges you don't need to worry about remembering names!

An example of the kinds of tasks you will be asked to do include:

• Working desks - taking applications for events/selling wrist bands/selling Eirtakon merchandise.
• Running screenings - sitting with a laptop in a screening room watching anime and making sure the DVD doesn't skip.
• Crowd control - ensuring people form an orderly queue, checking wrist bands.
• Games Room - changing the discs, helping run games tournaments.
• Panels - ensuring people stay quiet, acting as a gopher for the speaker if necessary.

We really hope that lots of you sign up, either for the first time or to return as veteran staff members. It really is fun to staff Eirtakon, we always have a blast and it's a great way to see another side of the con. You'll also get the exclusive official Volunteer Staff t-shirt!
